PET MOOSE PROJECT ANNOUNCES THIRD STUDIO ALBUM “THE WAY”
Richmond, VA–based Americana/alt-country rock band Pet Moose Project has announced the release of their third studio album, The Way, arriving June 4, 2026, on all major streaming platforms.
Recorded over two years, the eight-track album expands on the band’s guitar-driven Americana, alt-country, and rock foundation while taking a bold first step into the adult alternative genre. The Way showcases a dynamic range, from the hard-driving country rocker—and lead single—“Driving Rain,” to the expansive, 6-minute-and-30-second psychedelic/progressive title track, “The Way.”
True to form, the album blends rock and roll energy, jam band influences, and country tradition. At the same time, it ventures into new creative territory with the piano-driven rock/adult alternative tracks “Reservation” and “Two Feet on the Ground.” Both “Driving Rain” and “Two Feet on the Ground” have already received regional pre-release radio play.
Following the live, full-band recording approach of their first two albums (Goat Tracks, 2021, and Out West, 2022), Pet Moose Project adopted a more traditional, studio-focused process for The Way. This shift allowed for deeper exploration of each musician’s role and sound. The album also marks the band’s first collaboration with producer, friend, and fellow Richmond musician Stewart Myers (Agents of Good Roots).
Jimmy Shannon, the band’s primary songwriter, reflected on the experience: “The recording process really kept everyone on their toes as layers were built piece by piece, with each of us working closely with Stewart. There was nowhere to hide—everything required intention and focus. It was challenging at times but incredibly fulfilling in the end.”
Formed in 2020, the five-piece ensemble initially came together to record Shannon’s original songs. “My goal was to record an album of songs I had written with a group of friends before I turned 50,” Shannon said. “The guys fully embraced the challenge.”
The band features Jimmy Shannon (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Nelson Edmunds (drums, backing vocals), Phil Hatfield (keys), Rob Henley (lead guitar), and John Munson (bass). Each member brings a history of playing in bands dating back to high school, culminating in a collaboration that blends diverse influences into a cohesive and lasting body of original work.
Pet Moose Project will perform at WNRN’s Dead Air 5 in Roanoke this August and is scheduled to make their live studio audience and web debut on Shockoe Sessions this fall.
